OBSERVERSHIP AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT

OBSERVERSHIP

Observer-ship refers to observing other medical practitioners to do their usual activities. It is a way to understand how the Australian healthcare system works. You can be an observer in a GP clinic or a hospital. For hospitals, you need to go to the head of the department and tell them of your desire to be a clinical observer or if they have a specific program for that, you might just have to apply for it through their recruiting campaign. For a GP clinic, you can go to the individual GP or head of the practice.

There are few hospitals around Australia that offer very thorough IMG training programs. They have specific selection criteria, can be competitive and may have a cost, but they are highly recommended as a great percentage of participants can be offered a position at the end.

These are some of the hospital that offer IMG clinical observer programs:

- Austin Health - IMG Training Program, VIC

- The Northern Hospital - Clinical Observer Program, VIC

- The Gold Coast University Hospital, QLD

- John Hunter Hospital, NSW

- Launceston General Hospital, Tasmania
